Honoring Minnesota’s Hockey Excellence
USA Hockey will recognize three Minnesota standouts at its annual meeting in Colorado, highlighting the state’s continued impact on American hockey.
Max Plante of Hermantown is slated to receive the Jim Johansson College Player of the Year Award, building on a family legacy that includes his father, former NHL player Derek Plante, and his participation with Team USA at the 2026 World Juniors.
Caleb Heil of Victoria, a draft selection of the Tampa Bay Lightning, will continue his development at the University of North Dakota next season, and his performances have earned him the Dave Peterson Goalie of the Year Award.
Mark Verplaetse of Centerville, who has served as an on‑ice official since 1980, will be presented with the Chet Stewart Award for his extensive work educating new officials across the country.
These honors reflect Minnesota’s deep talent pool and its influence on both player development and the administration of the game, underscoring the state’s role as a cornerstone of hockey culture in the United States.
