Minnesota State University’s men’s and women’s hockey programs are set to open the 2026‑27 season with a pair of youth‑focused contests that will bring almost 3,600 students from the local ISD 77 district to the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center.
The women’s team will host RPI on September 25, targeting 3rd‑ through 5th‑grade students. Seating will be reserved in section 203, and tickets will be priced at $10 for adults and $5 for students, with concessions available.
A week later, on October 2, the men’s squad will stage an exhibition against Manitoba, featuring 6th‑ through 8th‑grade participants. The game will open seats in sections 202, 203 and 204, and the same ticket structure applies, while MSU students can attend free with a MavCard.
Concessions will be open at both venues, though alcohol will not be served, and the events are designed to foster connections with ISD 77 while giving youngsters a first‑hand look at collegiate hockey.
Building a Pipeline for the Future
Beyond the on‑ice action, the games serve as a bridge between the university and the surrounding community, offering a welcoming environment for students who might otherwise never experience a college hockey atmosphere.
University officials say the initiatives are part of a broader effort to introduce the sport to a new generation and to strengthen ties with local schools, ensuring a steady pipeline of future fans and players.
