Minnesota United Marks a Decade in MLS
Minnesota United FC will mark its tenth season in Major League Soccer on August 19, when the Loons welcome Atlanta United to Allianz Field for a highly anticipated rematch.
The match marks the first time the two clubs have met since both entered MLS in 2017, rekindling a rivalry that began with their inaugural MLS encounter on March 12, 2017 at TCF Bank Stadium.
Commemorative Fan Experience
A limited‑edition 10‑year poster sponsored by Allianz will be handed out to the first 15,000 supporters, while a series of fan‑focused installations will transform the concourse into a celebration of Minnesota soccer heritage.
The gameday experience includes a Sun Country Airlines pre‑party for alumni, a sequined Loon mural photo wall, and a Free Farmers Market‑themed chalk art piece created by Allianz, offering unique photo opportunities for attendees.
Alumni Reunion and On‑Field Honors
A roster of former stars is confirmed to attend, among them Bakaye Dibassy, Romain Métanire, Ike Opara, Jérôme Thiesson, Osvaldo Alonso, Collin Martin, Jan Gregus and Abu Danladi, who will be honored on the field before kickoff.
Throughout the contest, in‑game graphics will trace the club’s ten‑year journey and pay tribute to 50 years of soccer in Minnesota, weaving together past achievements with present ambitions.
Halftime Recognition and Broadcast
At halftime, the Team of the Decade, chosen by fan vote and presented by Allianz, will be recognized on the field, receiving custom gifts as the crowd applauds the selected eleven, which features Michael Boxall, Anthony Markanich, Wil Trapp, Joaquín Pereyra, Bongokuhle Hlongwane, Dayne St. Clair and others.
The match will be broadcast on MLS’s Apple TV platform by commentators Kyndra de St. Aubin and Callum Williams, while proceeds from concession sales will be donated to Keystone Community Services in Midway, Minnesota, supporting local charitable efforts.
