Minnesota Wild Secure Multi-Year ECHL Partnership with Jacksonville Icemen

Affiliation aims to boost player development and expand market presence ahead of the 2026-27 season

The Minnesota Wild have unveiled a multi-year affiliation with the Jacksonville Icemen of the ECHL, a partnership that will take effect for the 2026-27 season.

A Developmental Bridge

The agreement is intended to deepen player development pathways, giving prospects a clear route to the professional ranks while extending the Wild’s footprint in a market that has shown strong attendance trends.

Bill Guerin, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Wild, expressed excitement about the new affiliation.

The Icemen will serve as a developmental resource for both the Iowa Wild of the AHL and the Minnesota Wild, allowing players to be assigned for conditioning and game experience throughout the season.

While the Wild’s primary development affiliate remains the Iowa Wild in the AHL, the new ECHL relationship adds an additional layer of flexibility for players needing more ice time at the lower level.

Joe Ernst, VP of Hockey Operations for Zawyer Sports & Entertainment, welcomed the partnership, highlighting the Icemen’s recent success in drawing sellouts and their competitive reputation.

The Icemen entered the ECHL for the 2017-18 season and have since become one of the league’s most consistent drawers, leading the league in sellouts for the past four seasons.

Owned by Zawyer Sports, the team plays at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena, a 15,000-seat venue that opened in November 2003 and continues to attract packed crowds.

The affiliation also promises to broaden the Wild’s scouting reach in Florida, a state that has emerged as an important talent pool, while giving the Icemen a direct link to an NHL organization.
