Minyon Moore Takes the Helm of Long Beach State Women's Basketball
Long Beach State University announced today that Minyon Moore has been appointed as the ninth head coach of its women's basketball program, ushering in a new era for the 49ers.
Moore arrives with a proven championship pedigree, having guided Texas Christian University to back‑to‑back Elite Eight appearances and a 32‑6 record during the 2025‑26 season, a campaign that transformed the Horned Frogs into one of the nation’s top ‘3‑and‑D’ defensive teams.
At Sacramento State, she orchestrated a historic turnaround, engineering a school‑record 25 wins and securing the program’s first NCAA Tournament berth, showcasing her ability to rebuild and elevate teams.
A former standout at the University of Southern California and the University of Oregon, Moore earned All‑Pac‑12 Defensive Team honors three times, completed a bachelor’s degree in communications at USC and a master’s in advertising and brand responsibility at Oregon, and was recognized by Silver Waves Media as one of the ‘50 Most Impactful Mid‑Major Assistants.’
Beyond X’s and O’s, Moore is known for her player‑first philosophy, emphasizing personal development alongside athletic achievement, a mindset that resonated with university leaders and teammates alike.
Mark Campbell, the university’s athletic director, highlighted Moore’s defensive acumen and championship mindset as key factors in the hiring decision, while Bobby Smitheran and Xavier Lopez, members of the coaching staff, will work closely with her to implement the new system.
Her son, Elijah, will also join the program, adding a personal dimension to the fresh start, and the university community looks forward to seeing how her defensive strategies and player‑centric approach will shape the future of Long Beach State basketball.
