Miracle League Launches Summer Season with Record 551 Players

All‑inclusive baseball program expands across Oakland and Flint, seeking volunteers

A Season of Inclusion

The Miracle League has become a beacon for children and adults with developmental differences, offering a baseball experience that welcomes every participant regardless of ability.

This summer, the league’s reach has expanded dramatically, with 551 players organized into 26 teams and four divisions spread across three specially designed fields in south Oakland, north Oakland, and greater Flint.

Fields Built for All Abilities

Each venue features adaptive infrastructure — rubberized surfaces, lowered fences, and accessible dugouts — to ensure that every player can step onto the diamond and take part in the game.

The league’s philosophy centers on the simple yet powerful mantra: “everyone plays, everyone belongs, everyone is celebrated.”

Community Support and Volunteer Needs

Realizing that vision requires more than just equipment; it demands a network of volunteers who coach, cheer, and help maintain the fields. The organization is actively recruiting additional helpers to keep the season running smoothly.

Nick Lionas, director of recreation for Easterseals MORC, recently appeared on Local 4 Live to discuss the program’s impact and the urgent call for community involvement.

Beyond the playing field, the league fosters social connections, builds confidence, and creates a sense of belonging that extends into families and neighborhoods throughout the region.
