Eastern Illinois University has added Miranda Del Mar Rodríguez Sánchez to its women's basketball roster, completing a recruiting class that will feature six new players for the upcoming season. The Spanish guard signed with the Panthers after a standout career at CBIC SPAR Gran Canaria, where she helped the club capture the FEB Junior Spanish Club Championship and compete in Spain's top professional league.
During her tenure in the Canary Islands, Sánchez faced off against EuroLeague powerhouse Perfumerías Avenida and went head‑to‑head with former WNBA veterans Shavonte Zellous and Abby Meyers. Her performances were highlighted by a blend of athleticism, perimeter shooting and a knack for forcing turnovers that turned defensive stops into fast‑break opportunities.
A New Chapter for the Panthers
Coach Marqus McGlothan praised the newcomer's international résumé, noting that her championship experience and defensive instincts should elevate the team's competitiveness. "Miranda brings a level of poise and playmaking that complements our existing talent," McGlothan said in a statement.
She will join teammates Itxasne Fernandez Arguello, Nevaeh Dickman, Lana Koricanac, Alahnna Simpson and Dalia Grandberry, all of whom signed earlier this spring through the transfer portal. The group represents a blend of fresh perspectives and proven contributors as the Panthers aim to climb the conference standings.
The addition of Sánchez underscores Eastern Illinois's commitment to recruiting talent that can thrive on both the domestic and international stages. With a schedule that includes challenging matchups, the coaching staff believes her defensive versatility and ability to create offense will be pivotal assets.
