Missions and Zoo Join Forces for Congo Falls Night

Baseball, conservation and community recycling converge at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium on August 22

A Game Night with a Conservation Twist

On August 22, the San Antonio Missions will transform Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium into a stage for both sport and wildlife advocacy as they partner with the San Antonio Zoo for Congo Falls Night.

The celebration marks the inauguration of the zoo’s new two‑acre Congo Falls gorilla habitat, a space designed to showcase the animals while supporting global conservation efforts.

Players will take the field in custom jerseys inspired by the habitat’s lush surroundings; the garments will be auctioned after the game, with proceeds directed toward gorilla protection programs.

Game Night Highlights

A limited‑edition ticket package includes an exclusive Missions gorilla plushie, giving fans a tangible reminder of the night’s mission.

Throughout the evening the zoo will host a series of activities, from a ceremonial first pitch to appearances by its mascot Savanna, while a recycling kiosk invites attendees to drop off old phones, tablets and other electronics.

The campaign, known as Gorillas on the Line, seeks to reduce coltan demand — a mineral linked to habitat loss — by encouraging responsible e‑waste disposal.

The game itself will pit the Missions against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals at 7:05 p.m., after which a postgame fireworks display sponsored by Bud Light will light up the sky.

Beyond entertainment, the event underscores how community institutions can blend leisure with education, turning a baseball outing into a catalyst for environmental stewardship.

Looking Ahead

Organizers hope the night will inspire similar collaborations across the country, proving that stadiums can serve as hubs for both excitement and impact.
