Kevin Roberts Jr., a 17‑year‑old standout from Jackson Prep in Mississippi, has agreed to a $1 million contract with the Baltimore Orioles, forgoing a college scholarship to begin his professional career directly after high school.
The deal makes Roberts the second player from the school in three years to sign straight out of high school, following the path of Konnor Griffin, who was selected ninth overall in the 2024 MLB Draft and has already debuted in the majors.
Roberts capped his senior season with a .396 batting average, 46 runs scored, 34 RBIs, 10 doubles, three triples and 10 home runs, helping the team finish 23‑17 and reach the MAIS Class 4A semifinals. Coach Brent Heavener praised the teenager’s work ethic and said the signing was “the culmination of years of relentless effort.”
A fourth‑round pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, Roberts turned down offers from a dozen Division I programs, including Ole Miss and Alabama, to accept the Orioles’ offer. His decision underscores a growing trend among top Mississippi prospects who see a professional pathway as a more immediate route to the big leagues.
