The Mississippi football community is reeling after the fatal shooting of former collegiate standout Idarrious D.D. Bowie, who was gunned down in Rankin County on a warm evening in early June.
According to investigators, the tragedy unfolded around 6 p.m. at a residence on the 100 block of Adams Road, where a disturbance escalated into a burst of gunfire that left Bowie with multiple gunshot wounds.
Witnesses reported a small gray vehicle speeding away from the scene, its occupants disappearing into the night as law enforcement arrived.
Rankin County authorities moved quickly, detaining five individuals in connection with the incident. Among those charged are Ladarious Harrison, 18, and Dominick Sanabria, 19, both facing murder counts, while Michael Mitchell, Semiko Crump and Kaylee Trimble are accused of accessory after the fact.
Sheriff Bryan Bailey emphasized that violence has no place in the community, stating that the case remains active and that further arrests are possible as detectives piece together the events that led to the shooting.

Bowie’s athletic pedigree was rooted in Mississippi’s high‑school ranks, where he starred at Morton High School before earning national recognition as a U.S. Army All‑American recruit.
He went on to play defensive back for the University of Mississippi in 2017, appearing in nine games and registering six tackles and a pass breakup, before transferring to Jackson State University, where he blossomed as a wide receiver in 2019, catching 35 passes for 512 yards and five touchdowns.
His performances made him a familiar name to football fans across the state, linking the legacy of Ole Miss and Jackson State in a career that highlighted the talent emerging from Mississippi’s HBCU‑rich football landscape.
The loss has left a void for his family, teammates, and the broader community, prompting tributes that celebrate not only his athletic achievements but also his role as a mentor and friend.
