A Fresh Start for Mississippi State Football
The 2026 campaign officially began on August 6 at the Leo Seal Jr. Football Complex, where the Mississippi State Bulldogs took to the field for their first preseason practice. The energy was palpable as players reported for drills under a bright Mississippi sky, marking the start of a season that promises both renewal and continuity.
Head coach Jeff Lebby, now in his third season, guided the team to a 5‑8 record in 2025 before falling to Wake Forest in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. Despite the modest win‑loss tally, Lebby’s tenure has been defined by steady progress and a clear vision for the program’s future.
At the heart of the offense, sophomore Kamario Taylor has been named the new starting quarterback. Taylor’s ascent comes after a competitive battle for the role, with transfers AJ Swann, Jaden Rashada, and sophomores Brodie McWhorter and Parker Puckett all vying for backup duties.
The receiving corps will look markedly different this year. Former top target Brenen Thompson, who transferred to MSU and was later drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers in the fourth round, leaves a sizable void.
