Mississippi State's baseball squad saw its season come to an abrupt end on Saturday night as the Bulldogs fell to Georgia 11-9 in ten innings during Game 2 of the Athens Super Regional.
A Comeback That Ran Out of Time
The Bulldogs erased a five-run hole and sparked hope with three straight home runs in the seventh inning, but Georgia answered with a timely RBI single from Brennan Hudson to knot the game in the ninth.
Jacob Parker’s two-run blast in the eighth put Mississippi State ahead 9-8, only for Daniel Jackson to deliver a decisive two-run homer in the top of the tenth, restoring the lead for the Bulldogs' opponents.
Key Pitching Changes
Starter Ryan McPherson was pulled after surrendering four earned runs over just 1⅓ innings, prompting a bullpen shuffle that ultimately could not contain Georgia's late surge.
Kevin Milewski’s early two-run homer in the second had given the Bulldogs a 2-0 edge, but the momentum shifted as Georgia piled on runs in the sixth, extending their lead to 7-2 before the comeback began.
What’s Next for Georgia
With the victory, Georgia secures a spot in the College World Series, which opens on June 12 in Omaha, Nebraska. The team will join the nation's elite in a tournament that crowns the ultimate collegiate champion.
Mississippi State, meanwhile, will look to rebuild after a season that promised a return to the CWS for the first time since its 2021 national title run.
