Mississippi State Secures Freshman All-American Josiah Overbeek via Transfer Portal

The standout two-way player from Army commits to the Bulldogs, joining a loaded 2027 roster

Mississippi State’s baseball program announced the addition of Josiah Overbeek, a standout two-way player who earned Freshman All-American honors at Army in 2026. Overbeek revealed his commitment on Instagram, citing the opportunity to play under head coach Brian O’Connor and contribute to a dynamic lineup in Starkville.

A Freshman Surge in Starkville

The Bulldogs will field three freshman All-Americans next season — Overbeek, Brady Christman and Jacob Parker — who together posted 47 home runs and 150 RBIs in the previous year. Overbeek’s 17 home runs and .314 batting average led the Black Knights, while his 21 innings on the mound yielded a 5.57 ERA. His dual-threat status adds depth both at the plate and on the mound.

Coach O’Connor, now in his fourth transfer acquisition this offseason, also brought in infielder Jake Souders from Samford and pitcher Zach Russell from the University of South Carolina, bolstering the roster ahead of the 2027 campaign. The new class joins returning talent and is expected to elevate the team’s competitiveness in the SEC.
