As the Missouri Tigers gear up for the 2026 season, a handful of freshmen are already making noise during fall camp, with the team set to open its schedule on Thursday, Sept. 3 against UAB in Columbia.
Early Standouts
Jayden McGregory, a four‑star safety prospect from West Des Moines, Iowa, has been working with the second‑team defense, showing a college‑ready build at 6‑foot‑2 and 198 pounds that could earn him early playing time.
Jaxson Gates, a rookie cornerback from La Verne, California, arrived at 6‑foot‑185 pounds and has added weight to better compete against SEC pass‑catchers, taking reps with the second‑team secondary as he fights for a larger role.
Khalief Canty Jr., a 6‑4, 315‑pound offensive guard from Detroit, has surprised coaches by earning backup reps behind Curtis Peagler at right guard, positioning himself for a future role as the offensive line undergoes changes after the season.
The 2026 recruiting class brings 22 newcomers, among them Santana Banner and Trajen Greco, who are slated to start at free and rover safety, while Auburn transfer Kensley Louidor‑Faustin and Elijah Dotson will rotate at STAR safety. Established corners such as Jahlil Florence, Chris Graves Jr., Sione Laulea and Nick DeLoach Jr. will also vie for minutes.
With five practices left before game week, the staff is watching closely to see how quickly these freshmen can translate camp performance into contributions on the field.
