Mitch Giguère Takes the Helm of the Greensboro Gargoyles

Veteran coach brings two decades of experience to revitalize the ECHL franchise

A Fresh Coaching Direction

Mitch Giguère has been named the second head coach of the Greensboro Gargoyles, the ECHL affiliate that serves as a development pipeline for the Carolina Hurricanes and Chicago Wolves.

The 45‑year‑old coach arrives after three seasons as an assistant with the Wheeling Nailers, where he helped shape a roster that captured playoff contention and earned praise from Zawyer Sports & Entertainment vice president of hockey operations Joe Ernst.

A native of Montréal, Québec, Giguère brings nearly two decades of coaching experience across multiple leagues, having started his career in 2010 and steadily climbed the ranks through various developmental roles.

Player Development pedigree

Giguère’s reputation rests on his ability to nurture talent, a skill that has produced several players who have gone on to compete in both the NHL and AHL. His approach emphasizes individual growth while fostering a collective identity.

In his introductory remarks, Giguère spoke of rejuvenating the culture of Greensboro Hockey, building a strong team and community where players feel trusted and believed in, and describing the organization as a “big family” linking players, coaches and fans.

Looking Forward

The Gargoyles’ front office expressed confidence that Giguère’s blend of experience and player‑centric philosophy will translate into competitive performance on the ice and lasting engagement off it. The team aims to leverage its ties to the Hurricanes and Wolves to create a clear pathway for aspiring professionals.
