The Southeastern Conference announced its 2026 First-Year Honor Roll on Tuesday, July 7, recognizing a record number of rookie student‑athletes who have distinguished themselves in the classroom as well as on the field.
Among the honorees, 76 athletes from the University of Missouri, commonly referred to as Mizzou, earned the distinction, spanning a wide array of sports including baseball, basketball, football, gymnastics, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, wrestling and volleyball.
Academic standards behind the honor
To qualify, a student‑athlete must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.00 or a 3.0 for the preceding academic year, and must have completed 24 semester hours of credit toward a degree. First‑year participants are eligible after completing their initial full academic year, covering fall, spring and summer terms.
SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey praised the blend of athletic commitment and scholarly achievement, noting that the honor roll underscores the conference’s dedication to developing well‑rounded leaders.
The list not only highlights individual excellence but also reflects the strong academic support structures at each institution, with Mizzou’s coaching staff and academic advisors playing a pivotal role in guiding these students.
Fans and alumni have taken to social media to celebrate the achievements, viewing the recognition as a positive indicator of the program’s growing emphasis on education alongside competition.
