Mizzou Soccer Opens Season with Stalemate Against Western Kentucky

Despite early dominance, the Tigers settle for a 0‑0 draw as key players battle injury and saves

A Slow Start on the Road

Missouri’s women’s soccer team opened its 2026 campaign with a 0‑0 draw at Western Kentucky, outshooting the Hilltoppers 7‑2 in the opening half but failing to find the net.

Western Kentucky goalkeeper Mia Riddick was busy, making six saves to preserve the shutout, while Missouri’s own keeper Kate Phillips turned away three attempts, ensuring the Tigers left with a clean sheet on the road.

Injury and Momentum Shifts

Sophomore transfer Allyssa Turner sparked an early attack by winning the ball in the defensive third, only to see a shot from Landis Canada blocked. The second half saw Brianna Buels lead a right‑flank surge before a 75th‑minute check for injury forced her substitution.

The closing minutes turned frantic, but neither side could break the deadlock, leaving the match level at 0‑0 as the final whistle approached.

Four newcomers made their debut for Missouri, including Audrey Gilbert, Riley Morse, Petra Bandula and Allyssa Turner, who also contributed to the attacking efforts.

The Tigers’ road trip continues with a visit to Murray State on August 16 before a home opener against Saint Louis University on August 20 at the newly renovated Audrey J. Walton Stadium.
