Chattanooga women's soccer head coach Gavin McKinney announced the addition of two defenders from the transfer portal, Landry Olson and Elise Nystrom, to the 2026 roster, signaling a strategic push to fortify the back line.
Defensive Additions Bring Experience and Academic Excellence
Olson arrives from Charlotte, where she appeared in all 18 matches for the 49ers and logged seven starts, contributing three assists and a game‑winning goal against UNC Wilmington on August 14. Her high school career at Riverwood International Charter School earned her All‑Region Second Team honors, and she graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA, landing on the 2025 College Sports Communicators Academic All‑District Team and the President's List at Toledo.
Nystrom comes from Georgia State, having featured for the Panthers in the previous season. She recorded goals against West Georgia and Truett‑McConnell and maintained a .667 shots‑on‑goal ratio. A three‑time President's List honoree, she also belongs to the Sun Belt Commissioner's List, underscoring her consistent academic performance.
Pre‑Season Schedule and Fan Engagement
The Mocs will test the new lineup in exhibition matches against Dalton State and West Georgia before opening the regular season against UT Martin at Finley Stadium. Admission to all home games remains free, and concessions will be available for fans looking to support the team.
Coach McKinney emphasized that the blend of seasoned defenders and strong academic standing aligns with the program's broader goals of competitiveness and community involvement. The upcoming campaign promises a fresh defensive identity while maintaining the vibrant atmosphere that has become a hallmark of Mocs soccer.
