A Tough Start for the Mocs
The Chattanooga Mocs opened their season with a visit from the Belmont Bruins, hoping to build on last year’s momentum. An early strike by Emma Reeves in the 22nd minute put the Mocs ahead, but a disciplined Bruins side held them to a 1-0 halftime deficit.
Chattanooga dominated possession and outshot Belmont 13-6, with Quinn Johnson leading the attack with four attempts and three on target. Goalkeeper Caroline Ekern made three crucial saves in the first half, keeping the Mocs within striking distance.
The second half saw Belmont’s Kate Virtel equalize at the 65th minute, and Reagan Ross, returning from a 2025 injury, added the winning goal shortly thereafter. Despite the Mocs’ continued shot advantage, the Bruins capitalized on their chances.
The loss dropped Chattanooga’s record to 1-1-1, but the team remains focused on correcting the defensive lapses that allowed the late surge. Their next test comes at home against Austin Peay at Finely Stadium on Sunday, with free admission offered to fans.
