Utah Valley University announced the addition of Modestas Babraitis to its men's basketball roster for the 2026‑27 season, marking a strategic move as the program prepares for its inaugural campaign in the Big West Conference.
A New Chapter for the Wolverines
Standing 6‑foot‑5 and weighing 200 pounds, Babraitis is a guard with a blend of size, shooting ability and defensive versatility. He hails from Fort Myers, Florida, where he honed his game before embarking on a professional journey abroad.
Babraitis spent several seasons competing in the Lithuanian Basketball League, the top tier of the country's basketball pyramid. His most recent stint came with Jonavos CBet, where he averaged 12.3 points and 7.8 rebounds per game during the 2023‑24 campaign.
Prior to Jonavos CBet, he suited up for Rytas Vilnius and Vilniaus Perlas Energija, two clubs known for developing talent that later reaches European competitions.
On the international stage, Babraitis has represented Lithuania at the FIBA U18 and U20 European Championships, gaining exposure to senior‑level competition and contributing to the nation's basketball pedigree.
Head coach Todd Phillips praised the newcomer, noting that Babraitis' size and defensive instincts will immediately bolster the Wolverines' frontcourt. "He brings a toughness that complements our existing style," Phillips said.
The coaching staff believes the guard's international experience will translate into a competitive edge as the team adjusts to the rigors of the Big West, a conference renowned for its fast‑paced, perimeter‑oriented play.
Babraitis attended Vilnius Ozas Gymnasium before launching his professional career, a path that reflects both his European roots and his ambition to compete at the highest collegiate level in the United States.
With the signing now official, Utah Valley looks to integrate Babraitis into its system, hoping his versatility will help the program make a strong impression in its first Big West season.
