A group of young hockey players from Mongolia arrived in Minnesota this week as part of an unusual cultural exchange sponsored by Minneapolis restaurateur Enkhbileg Tserenbat.
The team, funded by the owner of the popular eatery known as Billy Sushi, spent their first days meeting stars of the Minnesota Wild and taking to the ice at local rinks.
A Cross‑Continental Exchange
During practice sessions the Mongolian athletes skated alongside NHL prospects, learning new techniques and sharing their own style of play that blends traditional speed with a gritty, outdoor spirit.
Beyond the rink, the visitors volunteered as mentors for the DinoMights learn‑to‑skate program, guiding 250 local children through their first strides on the ice and offering advice on everything from equipment to sportsmanship.
Enkhbileg Tserenbat, who grew up playing on a rustic outdoor rink in the Mongolian countryside, said the trip was a chance to give back to a community that once nurtured his own love of the game.
Summer Adventures Beyond the Ice
After their hockey duties conclude, the players will experience Minnesota’s summer offerings, from fishing on the state’s countless lakes to a tour of the Mall of America, a destination that promises both shopping thrills and new memories.
The exchange program highlights how sport can bridge continents, turning a modest sponsorship into a full‑scale cultural immersion that benefits both the visitors and the host community.
