Monomoy Baseball Closes Season on a High Note
Monomoy Regional High School’s baseball squad put the finishing touches on a challenging campaign with a 19-2 triumph over Cape Cod Tech, a result that underscored the team’s resilience after a season marked by leadership turnover and early‑season setbacks.
Sophomore Colin Cote, who broke his finger early in the year and spent weeks regaining his rhythm, delivered a marquee performance, going 2‑for‑3 with a walk and driving in five runs while also pitching two scoreless relief innings and striking out four.
Coach Tim Nickerson praised Cote’s confidence and poise, noting that the youngster’s ability to contribute both at the plate and on the mound exemplified the team’s newfound cohesion.
The Sharks erupted early, plating 15 runs in the first inning; every starter reached base multiple times and scored at least once, a testament to the depth that had developed as the schedule progressed.
Cape Cod Tech, represented by senior Mason Tomlinson, answered with a two‑run homer and a spirited senior night performance, but the Crusaders could not overcome the onslaught.
Despite the loss, Cape Cod Tech secured a berth in the Division 5 postseason tournament, ranking 22nd and earning a mid‑bracket seed, while Monomoy finished the year at 8‑12, just outside the Division 4 tournament field.
The season’s arc — from early struggles to a decisive win — has left the Sharks upbeat about the upcoming playoffs, with Tomlinson expressing excitement for the postseason and confidence in the team’s capabilities.
