Season Opener Showdown
The 2026 season got off to a disappointing start for the Southern Connecticut State University men’s soccer team, which fell 3‑1 to Monroe University in their opening match.
Monroe struck first at the 38‑minute‑50 mark, catching the Owls off guard before they could settle into rhythm.
Giancarlo Ciotoli answered for Monroe just after the break, leveling the score at 47‑minute‑21 and shifting momentum.
The second half saw Monroe pull ahead with two more goals, finalizing a 3‑1 victory and showcasing the attacking thrust of players such as Héctor Díez Viota, Roger Fontdegloria and Jah Nyanforh, who logged the most minutes.
Shooting volume came from Izan Vila, Jimmy Choi, Kasper Murzinski and Alessandro Bacabac, who were the most aggressive shot‑takers for SCSU.

The two squads are scheduled to meet again on Sunday, August 30, at 2:00 PM on the University of Bridgeport’s campus, giving the Owls a chance at redemption.
