A milestone in Caribbean football development
During a recent trip to the Dominican Republic, Victor Montagliani, who serves as both Concacaf President and FIFA Vice President, met with Caribbean football leaders to discuss the future of the sport in the region and to reinforce the importance of youth development.
The itinerary included attendance at the CFU U‑14 Challenge Series Finals, where Guyana and Haiti secured their respective titles. Montagliani took the opportunity to commend the national teams, match officials and organizers for delivering a high‑quality tournament that showcases emerging talent.
Speaking alongside CFU President Lyndon Cooper, Montagliani highlighted the council’s commitment to transparency and accountability, noting that such governance improvements are essential for sustainable growth across the Caribbean.
The visit also served as a platform for Member Associations to voice concerns and ask questions about recent developments in global football governance, reinforcing the need for a stronger voice for Caribbean stakeholders in decision‑making processes.
Montagliani expressed pride in the progress made by Caribbean nations, citing recent FIFA qualification successes as evidence of the region’s rising competitiveness, and urged continued investment in youth programs and infrastructure to sustain this momentum.
Overall, the trip underscored Concacaf’s focus on nurturing young players, strengthening institutional frameworks, and ensuring that the Caribbean remains a vibrant contributor to the broader football ecosystem.
