Montana State’s football squad swapped helmets for waders last weekend, heading to the Gallatin River near Bozeman for a team‑building exercise dubbed “Casting with the Cats.” The outing was designed to beat the summer heat while fostering camaraderie among the players.
Running back Adam Jones, who already knew the art of fly‑fishing, described the experience as “relaxing and a great way to connect with the guys.” Offensive lineman Tommy Nilson echoed the sentiment, saying he loved “catching fish and hanging out with teammates.” Freshman wide receiver Caden Dowler, who reeled in his first fish of the day, called the activity “unique and a fun way to learn more about Montana.”
Safety Mason Dethman highlighted the simple joy of “being around the team,” while quarterback Justin Lamson appreciated the chance to pick up new skills from the river guides. The group’s enthusiasm was evident as they swapped stories of the day’s biggest catches.
