Montana State Stars Lead Seventh Annual Youth Football Camp in Fairfield

Former Cats players blend mentorship with skill development for dozens of young athletes

Three Montana State University football standouts — Cole Taylor, Colter Petre and Mason Dethman — returned to their hometown of Fairfield this weekend to run a youth football camp at Fairfield High School, inviting roughly 80 children from grades one through eight to learn the fundamentals of the game.

The event, now in its seventh iteration, was organized by local entrepreneur Helen Music, who has struck name, image and likeness (NIL) agreements with Taylor and Petre through her ventures Montana Valley Metals and Montana Valley Irrigation.

Taylor, a Great Falls native, addressed the campers with a focus on mentorship, stressing that serving as role models was as important as teaching technique.

Leadership and Legacy

‘It’s about giving back and showing these kids what’s possible,’ Taylor said, recalling his own early exposure to the sport. His perspective was shaped by Montana State’s recent national championship run, a season that cemented his reputation as a key contributor.

Among the attendees, Finley Legge and Sam Woodhouse praised the instruction they received, noting that the chance to train directly under Division I athletes accelerated their skill development and deepened their love for the sport.

The camp not only sharpened the participants’ abilities but also reinforced a community tradition that blends athletic excellence with local pride, illustrating how collegiate stars can shape the next generation on and off the field.
