A milestone in local youth baseball
The Montclair Bulldogs 12U Blue Baseball team added another chapter to its storied history by capturing its fourth tournament championship in as many years, outlasting formidable opponents such as North Caldwell and Chatham.
The championship was clinched on June 7 at Mountainside Park, where the Bulldogs finished the regular season with a 7‑2 record before peaking at the right moment. The victory follows a league title secured earlier in the month, underscoring the team’s consistency.
Key contributions came from James Ngo and George Rubino, whose clutch hits helped the squad edge North Caldwell in the semifinals, while Auggie Eskew and Rubino combined for a walk‑off win that swung momentum in the team’s favor.
In the championship game against Chatham — who had earlier dispatched Fairfield — Liam McDonnell delivered a bases‑loaded single that broke a 4‑4 tie, propelling the Bulldogs to a 6‑5 victory. Strong pitching from Rubino, Ngo and Jack Kelly kept the opposition at bay.
Head Coach Jimmy Moore praised the collective effort, noting that the championship run reflects both the players’ development and the program’s growing reputation. The team will mark the achievement with a July trip to Cooperstown Dreams Park, a coveted showcase for young talent.
