A Rematch on Ice
Moorhead’s boys hockey program has cemented its reputation as a powerhouse, capturing back‑to‑back state titles and now setting its sights on a third straight championship.
On Jan. 19, 2027, the Spuds will meet Minnetonka at the annual Hockey Day Minnesota festival in Brainerd, a showdown that revisits the dramatic double‑overtime victory the Spuds earned in 2026.
Community Spirit in Brainerd
The celebration, held at Brainerd International Raceway, transforms the town into a hockey‑themed playground, featuring high‑school and college matchups that culminate in an NHL‑styled exhibition.
Coach Jon Ammerman, who has guided the Spuds through two championship runs, previously steered teams to the same festival in 2018 and 2024, bringing a wealth of experience and a deep connection to the event’s community spirit.
Minnesota Wild CEO Matt Majka voiced his enthusiasm, stating that bringing Hockey Day Minnesota to Brainerd aligns with the franchise’s commitment to growing the sport across the state.
Tickets for the festivities will become available on July 20, 2026, giving fans ample time to secure spots for the outdoor games, the NHL matchup, and the surrounding celebrations.
