A community‑driven summer league
Father‑son duo Paul Moran and Matt Moran have launched a new summer basketball league in Swampscott, offering boys entering fourth grade through twelfth grade a chance to play, improve skills, and enjoy the game together.
Games are scheduled on Monday, Friday and Sunday evenings, giving families a flexible weekend rhythm while keeping the competition light and fun.
Equal playing time for every participant
Each team is deliberately kept small, ensuring that every player receives substantial minutes on the court and that the focus remains on development rather than win‑loss records.
To recognize effort, the coaching staff names an MVP each week, awarding the honoree a voucher for two slices of pizza and a drink from local favorite Captain’s Pizza.
Coaching leadership and future growth
Paul Moran recently accepted the varsity boys basketball head coaching position at Swampscott High School, bringing his experience to both the school program and the summer league. The organizers envision expanding the league next year, adding more teams and bringing the format to additional locations throughout Swampscott.
Local businesses have already pledged support, reinforcing the league’s community roots and helping to sustain its growth.
