Morgan State University announced the addition of guard Keith Richard to its men’s basketball roster for the upcoming 2026‑27 campaign, a move that bolsters the Bears’ backcourt with a proven scorer and seasoned competitor.
A New Perimeter Threat
Richard, a 6‑foot guard hailing from Dallas, Texas, arrives after two seasons at South Plains College where he posted a career‑high 32 points against Western Texas College and shot 41 percent from the field while hitting 39 percent of his three‑point attempts.
His statistical line at South Plains included averages of 10.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, and he reached double‑digit scoring on 15 occasions during the 2025‑26 season, underscoring his consistency as a perimeter threat.
Prior to his stint in Texas, Richard began his collegiate journey at Cal State Fullerton, where he contributed 6.4 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game before returning to the Lone Star State for further development.
Coach Broadus’s Vision
Head coach Kevin Broadus praised the newcomer’s shooting ability, maturity and competitiveness, stating that Richard’s experience will provide an immediate impact and add depth to the Bears’ offensive options.
Broadus emphasized that the coaching staff sees Richard as a player who can stretch defenses, create scoring opportunities and bring a winning mindset to practice and games.
The addition of Richard aligns with Morgan State’s broader strategy to recruit seasoned talent that can compete at the NCAA level, a plan that has already yielded commitments from several promising athletes.
Fans in Baltimore and across the university community are eager to see how the Dallas native will mesh with returning players and contribute to the program’s push for conference contention.
With the new season on the horizon, the Bears hope Richard’s proven track record will translate into more wins and a deeper run in the MEAC tournament.
