Morristown Beard School is gearing up for a 2026 campaign that blends seasoned experience with a compact roster of just 32 athletes. The team’s veteran-heavy lineup returns after an eleven‑player exodus, setting the stage for a season that could redefine its recent narrative.
Head coach Tahj Valentine emphasizes a shift in mindset, highlighting resilience and a collective hunger to prove themselves on the field. After a period of rebuilding, the program feels a renewed sense of purpose that could translate into tangible results.
Quarterback battle takes shape
At the heart of the offense, a quarterback duel is taking shape between Jude Franco and Stone Cioffi. Franco, who completed 82 of 138 passes for 1,045 yards and 11 touchdowns against 11 interceptions last season, is joined by Cioffi, whose own skill set adds a new layer of competition.
History, schedule, and early tests
The program’s pedigree includes a New Jersey Independent Schools Athletic Association title in 1972 and a three‑year streak from 1987 to 1989. Since joining the NJSIAA, the team reached only one sectional final, in 2007. This year’s schedule opens on Sept. 25 against Hopkins, followed by a Week 0 showdown with Ferris that marks the fifth straight season the Beard have opened with a win.
The non‑conference slate also features contests against Christ the King in Queens, New York, Newark West Side, Montclair Kimberley, and Pingry, while a mid‑week clash with Ferris will test the squad’s depth early on.
Fresh faces and future outlook
Freshman wide receiver Nick Ricciardi is expected to slide into a key role behind the senior‑laden line, offering a fresh spark as the team looks to translate its improved mindset into tangible results. With a blend of veteran leadership, a competitive quarterback race, and a challenging slate, the Beard hope to rewrite their recent narrative and finish the season with a statement performance.
