Morton High School’s girls soccer team clinched a spot in the IHSA Class 2A state semifinals on Tuesday, edging Waterloo 5-2 in a playoff showdown that showcased both offensive firepower and defensive resilience.
The Potters surged to a 2-0 lead at halftime, with senior forward Madi Greiner and midfielder Claire Ceresa finding the net before the break, setting the tone for a commanding performance.
Waterloo answered early in the second half, tying the game within the first 12 minutes, but Morton’s composure shone through as they rattled off three unanswered goals to pull away.
Greiner’s left‑footed strike in the 68th minute proved to be the decisive blow, sealing a 5-2 victory and sending the team into the next round with momentum on their side.
