Mount Anthony Union High School in Bennington recently hosted a girls' youth basketball camp that drew participants from second grade through incoming high school freshmen.
Head coach Jordyn Burke and assistant coach Kristen Barrett, who had been away from the program for nearly a decade, spearheaded the effort to bring the camp back, recalling the last iteration in 2016.
The camp’s schedule blended daily skill drills with guest speaker sessions, team‑building exercises and controlled scrimmages, all designed to foster both technical growth and personal development.
Burke stressed that the camp’s core mission was to give each girl ample playing time, ensuring that confidence could be built on the court as much as in the locker room.
The Final Day: A Celebration of Community
The atmosphere was electric, with laughter echoing across the gymnasium as the young athletes exchanged bracelets and signed memorabilia, cementing memories that will linger long after the season ends.
Both coaches expressed satisfaction at seeing the program’s numbers rebound and at the genuine enthusiasm displayed by the campers, many of whom are expected to join the school’s varsity roster in the coming years.
The revival of the camp not only revitalizes the girls' basketball pipeline at Mount Anthony Union but also reinforces the school’s commitment to inclusive, confidence‑building athletic opportunities.
