West Virginia University’s women’s soccer program will kick off the 2026‑27 athletic year with a home clash against Dayton on August 13, marking the start of a milestone season that also celebrates the team’s 30‑year anniversary.
Three Decades of Growth
Since the program’s inception, the Mountaineers have evolved from a modest collegiate side into a perennial contender in the Big 12, a transformation largely driven by head coach Nikki Izzo‑Brown, who has guided the team since its first season in 1996.
Izzo‑Brown’s imprint is evident in the program’s impressive résumé: a career record of 416‑146‑80, including a 181‑55‑36 mark in conference play, 24 NCAA Tournament appearances and a 21‑year streak of tournament bids from 2000 through 2020.
The 2025 campaign cemented that reputation, as the Mountaineers finished 14‑3‑4 overall and 8‑0‑3 in Big 12 competition, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and reinforcing the school’s reputation as a consistent force in one of the nation’s toughest conferences.
A Rigorous Non‑Conference Road
The upcoming non‑conference slate features seven matches before mid‑September, beginning with a road test at Army’s West Point facility on August 30, followed by a home encounter with Penn State and a showdown against Dayton to open the season.
Subsequent fixtures will take the team to Boulder, Colorado, to meet a Colorado squad that entered the 2025 tournament as a No. 3 seed, and back home to host Baylor on September 18, a game that traditionally tests the Mountaineers against a program with its own storied history.
Later in the schedule, Utah will make its first ever visit to Morgantown after the BYU match on October 8, while the home finale on October 30 will pit West Virginia against TCU, a team that fell in the Women’s College Cup last season to eventual champions Florida State.
