A Journey Across Borders
Ingvild Mucauro, a Mozambican basketball player and medical doctor, has arrived in Zimbabwe to take part in the Zone 6 U18 AfroBasket Qualifiers, where she will supervise MRI examinations for age verification.
Her path to this moment began in Chimoio, where she left her family as a teenager to chase a basketball dream while her parents emphasized the importance of education.
Over nearly two decades she has collected three Women’s Basketball League Africa titles and was named MVP of the 2019 tournament, achievements that have cemented her status as a trailblazer in African women’s basketball.
Medical Oversight in Zimbabwe
Mucauro’s medical background, earned after a decade of practice, now complements her sporting expertise as she ensures that only eligible players undergo MRI testing, a role she took on after a conversation with Dr. Omega Edwards.
Beyond the technical duties, she hopes her story will encourage young athletes to balance schooling and sport, viewing basketball as both a career and a form of therapy.
Looking ahead, she aims to become a sports medical doctor, merging her passion for medicine with her love for the game, and she sees this qualifier as a platform to inspire the next generation.
