UCLA's defensive standout and fellow Bruins earn top defensive honors and draft prospects ahead of the 2026 MLB Draft

Mulivai Levu, the UCLA first baseman, has been crowned the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove winner for the second straight season, cementing his reputation as one of the nation’s most reliable defensive players.

During the 2026 campaign he recorded 446 putouts, 21 assists and a .996 fielding percentage, while also maintaining a .300-plus batting average over two collegiate seasons, hitting 36 home runs and driving in 181 runs.

Levu’s preparation for the 2026 MLB Draft has placed him at No. 79 overall, a milestone that reflects a three‑year collegiate career featuring 1,231 putouts, 113 assists and only five errors.

Rising Stars Among the Bruins

The defensive excellence didn’t stop with Levu. Junior shortstop Roch Cholowsky and center fielder Will Gasparino were also finalists for the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove, highlighting a Bruins contingent that excelled both defensively and offensively.

Cholowsky, who finished the season ranked No. 85 among draft prospects, posted a .320 batting average, 21 home runs and 60 RBIs, and earned a finalist spot for the Golden Spikes Award, to be announced on June 29.

Gasparino went errorless throughout the 2026 campaign, underscoring his own defensive prowess and contributing to UCLA’s overall depth in the outfield.

Beyond individual honors, UCLA’s program was recognized by the NCBWA, which listed six Bruins among its All‑American selections, the most of any school.

Head coach John Savage added another accolade by being named the Skip Bertman Coach of the Year on June 13, further illustrating the team’s sustained excellence under his leadership.
