Ernie Kuyper, the first General Manager of Murray State University’s men’s basketball program, is stepping down after just one season at the helm. Brought in by head coach Ryan Miller in 2022, Kuyper was tasked with building the program’s front office from the ground up and positioning the Racers for success in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Enter Rashon Burno, recently hired as President of Basketball Operations, who will now assume the responsibilities Kuyper held. Burno’s extensive background in player personnel and high‑level coaching made him the natural choice to continue shaping the roster and strategic direction of the team.
Building on a Strong Foundation
During his lone year, Kuyper helped the Racers achieve a 20‑win season and secure a tie for third place in the Missouri Valley Conference, earning an NIT berth that highlighted the program’s rapid ascent.
Miller credits Kuyper with assembling a strong roster that will form the core of the team’s second‑season campaign, setting the stage for continued growth and competitiveness.
With Burno now overseeing basketball operations, the program enters its second year poised to translate early successes into sustained progress, as the university looks to cement its place in the conference and beyond.
