A Late-Inning Heroics

The Missouri Valley Baseball Championship delivered a thriller on Tuesday night as the third-seeded Murray State rallied to beat second-seeded Indiana State 3-2.

Kainen Jorge sparked the comeback with a two-run double in the eighth inning that put the Racers ahead, while Caden Miller had earlier answered with a solo homer in the fourth.

Starter Ryan Karst worked 7.1 innings for Indiana State, limiting the Racers to two hits and two runs, before reliever Colby Morse finished with 1.2 innings of one-hit, one-run ball.

The game also marked the end of Carter Beck’s 39-game on-base streak, and Miller’s eighth home run of the season added to the offensive fireworks.

Veteran Mason Roell stretched his hitting streak to ten consecutive games, while Emil Estrella extended his own streak to nine, underscoring the depth of the Sycamores’ lineup.

Ryan Karst’s effort earned his fifth quality start of the season, but the Sycamores will now turn their attention to an elimination showdown against the winner of the Southern Illinois versus Evansville matchup.

The Racers’ roster also featured Jacob Hustedde, Parker Airhart, Luke Mistone, Connor Chisholm, Ben Rosin and Nomar Garcia, who contributed to the effort.
