The Gov. Mifflin Mustangs have endured a rough stretch, failing to post a winning season since 2021. Their most recent playoff run ended in a 44‑12 defeat to Cumberland Valley, leaving the program searching for a turnaround.
Adding to the challenge, the team will lose several key contributors from last year’s roster, including quarterback LeBron Leaf, offensive lineman Dylon Worley, tackle Wade Gordon and defensive lineman Noah Viruet. In contrast, senior fullback Patrick Steuer, wide receiver Gaetano Campitelli and lineman Jordan Leinbach are set to return and provide continuity.
Head coach Nick Morrissey, now in his third year, has said the offensive line will be a focal point after three starters departed, while the defense aims to tighten up after a season that saw the Mustangs surrender an average of 20 points in Section 2 play.

The Mustangs will meet Wilson on Friday in Shillington for the Gurski‑Linn Trophy, a game that could serve as a litmus test for whether the new‑look squad can finally break the drought. With experience on the rise and a schedule that includes contests against Boyertown, Hempfield and other traditional rivals, the Mustangs hope to translate practice gains into wins and finally reclaim a winning record.
