When I think about the sports I consume, I picture a Thanksgiving plate piled high with my favorite dishes. College football and the NFL sit at the center, the stuffing and potatoes that I return to again and again.
Alongside them I savor college baseball, Major League Baseball, golf, and basketball, each offering its own flavor, but soccer never finds a place on the plate.
I have watched several World Cup matches and can’t deny the way the tournament stitches together fans from every corner of the globe. The spectacle is undeniably powerful, yet I often feel the drama overshadows the pure competition I seek.
Olympic Dominance
The United States has topped the Summer Olympics medal table nineteen times, a record that underscores the breadth of athletic talent the country nurtures across a wide range of disciplines.
In the end I’ve decided that soccer isn’t for me, and I’m comfortable championing the sports that light me up, while cheering anyone else who chooses a different path.
