A Violent Encounter in a Quiet Neighborhood
Around 10 a.m. on a Tuesday, a nanny was walking a two‑year‑old child in a stroller along Creekbend Drive in Sugar Land, Texas, when a stranger approached and demanded directions.
The situation escalated in an instant; the assailant brandished a baseball bat and began striking the caregiver, who was trying to shield the child from harm.
The attacker, described as a man in his 30s or 40s, tall and of heavier build, fled the scene in an older‑model sport‑utility vehicle.
Dannel Caban, the victim’s husband, later told investigators that the attacker seemed to be asking for directions before the assault turned violent.
In the course of the attack the nanny raised her arm to protect herself, resulting in a shattered forearm that required surgery with plates and screws; doctors expect a recovery period of five to six months.
Police Seek Answers
The toddler remained unharmed, and police have not identified a motive, noting that the victim did not appear to know her attacker. Sugar Land’s crime dashboard shows a rise in aggravated assaults this year, with 14 reported through early June compared to 11 during the same period last year.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the suspect or the vehicle to contact the Sugar Land Police Department at 281‑275‑2020 or Fort Bend County Crime Stoppers at 281‑342‑TIPS.
