NASCAR Announces Revamped 2026 All‑Star Race at Dover with New Format and Grip Enhancements

Three‑segment event introduces inversion, elimination and a competition caution, while resin is added to boost track grip

The 2026 NASCAR All‑Star Race is set to make its historic debut at Dover, Delaware, marking the first time the iconic event will be staged on the 11‑turn, 1‑mile concrete oval in the First State.

A Fresh Look for the All‑Star Spectacle

NASCAR has unveiled a three‑segment format that reshapes the traditional showdown. The opening two segments each run 75 laps, and after the first segment the running order will be inverted, sending the leader to the back of the pack.

Ten drivers will be eliminated after the second segment, leaving a 20‑car finale that will run 200 laps. The new structure is designed to increase on‑track drama and give fans a more unpredictable climax.

Among the competitors, 19 drivers have already secured a spot in the final segment through past championships, recent race victories or other qualifying criteria. The remaining entries will be decided by a fan vote, adding a layer of public participation to the spectacle.

In a bid to increase on‑track action, officials will apply a special resin compound to the racing surface, aiming to enhance grip and encourage more side‑by‑side battles. The strategy reflects a broader trend of experimenting with surface treatments to improve competition.

The race will also feature a competition caution midway through the final segment, scheduled after 75 laps, providing teams with a strategic pit stop window. With a mix of seasoned champions and rising stars — including names like Ross Chastain, Austin Cindric, Kyle Larson, and Chase Elliott — fans can expect a dynamic finish.
