NASCAR has announced that the iconic Clash exhibition race will make its way back to the historic Daytona International Speedway in 2027, marking a strategic shift that aligns the event with the opening weeks of the season.
Ryan Preece, the 2024 Clash champion, has voiced strong support for the decision, arguing that the extended Speedweeks schedule gives spectators the chance to soak up not only the Daytona spectacle but also the surrounding grassroots venues that define Florida’s racing culture.
Tracks such as New Smyrna Speedway and Volusia Speedway Park sit just a short drive from the speedway, offering fans a chance to experience high‑octane short‑track action before the big race, a point that Preece says enriches the overall weekend.
Preece’s own history with those venues is extensive; he captured three championships at New Smyna during Speedweeks and recently celebrated a victory at Bowman Gray Stadium, a track that previously hosted the Clash in 2026.
The 2026 edition at Bowman Gray was hampered by an unexpected snowstorm that forced cancellations and delays, underscoring the logistical challenges of holding the event in colder climates. By contrast, early February in Florida presents a far more predictable weather window, reducing the risk of such disruptions.
Beyond fan experience, the move serves a technical purpose. The 2027 Clash will be run on the Daytona oval using a brand‑new superspeedway engine and aerodynamic package, giving teams a valuable testing ground ahead of the Daytona 500.
Kyle Larson, who has enjoyed multiple victories at Volusia Speedway Park, is among the drivers who could benefit from the additional track time, while the eligibility criteria for the Daytona Clash remain a topic of discussion among officials.
NASCAR has yet to release the full rulebook for the 2027 event, leaving questions about qualifying formats and points allocation open, but the organization is confident that the revised schedule will restore the buildup and atmosphere that fans have missed.
