NASCAR has unveiled a significant tweak to its Cup Series weekend schedule, promising more time on the track for teams and fans alike.
Starting with the upcoming event at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, the series will replace the traditional two 25‑minute practice windows with a single 50‑minute session, giving drivers a longer stretch to fine‑tune setups.
Extended Practice Sessions
In addition, each team will be allotted an extra set of tires, allowing multiple runs and more strategic experimentation before qualifying.
The change comes after feedback from mid‑pack competitors who felt the previous format limited their ability to test different configurations, and it reflects NASCAR’s aim to enhance the on‑track product.
While the new practice format will not be rolled out across every venue immediately, NASCAR has indicated that all tracks except superspeedways will adopt the 50‑minute session format in future events.
