Sonoma 2026: The O'Reilly Series Returns
The NASCAR O'Reilly Series is set to make its comeback at Sonoma Raceway next June, marking the 19th event of the 2026 season and the only race held in Sonoma that year. The announcement comes as the series looks to build on the momentum generated by last year’s thrilling finale.
Qualifying will be divided into two groups, A and B, with each driver given a single flying lap to set their time; the fastest effort across the groups will dictate the starting order for the Pit Boss / FoodMaxx 250. This streamlined approach replaces the traditional multi‑round system and is intended to heighten on‑track drama.
In 2025, Shane van Gisbergen claimed the pole position, and he will be among the competitors eyeing a similar feat in 2026. The lineup for the upcoming event includes a mix of veteran names and rising talent, with drivers such as Leland Honeyman Jr., Kyle Sieg and Ryan Ellis slated for Group A, while Group B will feature Patrick Staropoli, Josh Bilicki and Ross Chastain.
The format simplifies the traditional multi‑round approach, reducing qualifying to a single round where the best lap time determines the grid, a change that officials say should keep fans on the edge of their seats. With the race scheduled for a June weekend, the Sonoma event promises warm weather, scenic vineyards and a unique challenge on the road course, making it a highlight of the 2026 calendar.
