NASCAR announced sanctions against MBM Motorsports on Thursday, penalizing the team’s No. 69 truck after a safety inspection before qualifying at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park.
The infraction involved the shifter boot, a component the series requires to remain intact during competition, and the violation was classified under Sections 14.2.3.6 A and B of the NASCAR Rule Book.
Penalty specifics
The team was levied a $5,000 fine and stripped of 25 owner points, while driver Jonathan Shafer saw his own point total reduced by the same amount.
The penalty dropped Shafer’s tally into negative territory and left MBM Motorsports 14 points adrift in the owner standings, a deficit that will require a steep climb over the nine races remaining in the season.
During qualifying, Shafer’s truck posted the slowest time among the 38 entries, relegating the entry to the back of the grid and sealing its failure to make the 36‑truck field for the TSport 200.
Road ahead
With nine races left on the schedule, the organization must reverse the point shortfall and climb back into positive territory before the season concludes.
The next opportunity arrives on August 14 at Richmond Raceway, where the team hopes to rewrite its recent downturn and regain momentum.
