Weather Delays Force NASCAR Schedule Changes at Richmond
NASCAR announced that the Friday night Black's Tire 250 Craftsman Truck Series race at Richmond Raceway has been postponed because of persistent lightning and rain that made the track unsafe. The event will now take place on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. ET, with New Zealand driver Shane van Gisbergen securing pole position alongside Kaden Honeycutt.
The schedule shift also required a change in broadcast rights, moving Fox Sports 1's coverage to Fox Sports 2. Later that evening, the Cup Series will run its featured event shortly after 7:00 p.m. ET, where Ryan Blaney will start from the front alongside Chase Briscoe.
Richmond's weekend marks the only NASCAR race weekend scheduled for the 2026 calendar, a return that has been welcomed after a 15‑year gap for the Truck Series and a historic first single‑race weekend for the Cup Series since 1958.
Meteorologists predict a 56 % chance of showers and afternoon thunderstorms on Saturday, and further storms are expected through Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, raising the possibility of additional postponements.
