The street race had become a July 4th weekend tradition, drawing crowds to the heart of downtown Chicago, but it also sparked complaints from nearby residents about noise, street closures and restricted parking.
Local neighborhoods, including those surrounding Grant Park, voiced frustration over the disruptions, prompting the city and state to reconsider the feasibility of staging the race on city streets.
Despite the backlash, NASCAR highlighted the strong fan response to the 2026 edition held in Joliet during the same holiday weekend, noting that the race attracted record attendance and positive energy.
