NASCAR Returns to Naval Base Coronado for Historic 250th‑Birthday Celebration

Thousands of fans expected as the Navy partners with NASCAR for a weekend of racing, tribute and public access

A Milestone Celebration on the Waterfront

The historic NASCAR San Diego Weekend is set to transform the waterside grounds of Naval Base Coronado into a racing arena unlike any other. The event, which marks the Navy’s 250th birthday, will draw an estimated 100,000 visitors over two days, turning the base into a temporary city of speed and spectacle.

Attendees must present a valid government‑issued photo ID and enter exclusively through the Stockdale Gate, where security checks will be conducted. All tickets come with a parking pass that can be downloaded in advance, and the base’s unique parking arrangement means no street parking is available in the surrounding city of Coronado.

To ease congestion, officials are encouraging carpooling and have arranged special shuttle service via the Metropolitan Transit System. The first 10,000 fans each day will receive a commemorative giveaway, adding a collectible element to the experience.

Beyond the races, the weekend will feature live entertainment, a chance for spectators to walk the track and explore the base’s historic sites. The celebration blends military tradition with motorsport culture, giving the public a rare glimpse into naval life.

Capt. Loren Jacobi, commanding officer of Naval Base Coronado, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, noting that the event reflects months of planning and a desire to showcase the Navy to the community.
