A Weekend of Speed and Celebrity
The roar of engines will echo across Sonoma County this weekend as NASCAR makes its long-awaited return to Sonoma Raceway, turning the region into the epicenter of American motorsport.
Spanning three days, the event showcases the premier Cup Series, the high-octane Menards Series West, and the O’Reilly Auto Parts-backed second-tier division, each race promising its own brand of excitement.
Sunday’s centerpiece, the Toyota/Save Mart 350, is expected to draw as many as 50,000 spectators, cementing its status as the weekend’s headline attraction.
The 2.52-mile Sears Point layout, the largest motorsports facility in Northern California, provides a challenging road-course venue that has already proven its mettle by hosting Shane van Gisbergen, last year’s winner and a noted road-course specialist.
Van Gisbergen, who also captured victory at Watkins Glen in New York last month, will be looking to add another triumph to his résumé as the green flag drops.
Adding to the pageantry, World Series champion manager Dusty Baker will serve as the honorary grand marshal for Sunday’s race, while NBA champion and analyst Festus Ezeli will drive the pace car.
Three-time World Series champion pitcher Matt Cain is slated to deliver the pre-race invocation, lending his voice to the ceremonial opening.
Beyond the Cup Series, Friday’s General Tire 150 will spotlight the brightest talent on the Automobile Racing Club of America-run Menards Series West, and Saturday’s Pit Boss/FoodMaxx 250 will highlight the O’Reilly Auto Parts-backed division.
Organizers note that tickets remain available for all three races, giving fans ample opportunity to experience the full spectrum of competition.
With a blend of high-speed racing, celebrity appearances, and a storied track, the weekend promises to be a landmark moment for both local enthusiasts and the broader NASCAR community.
